Prioritizing School Safety: Tarrance Jones' Comprehensive Plan to Protect Our Children

As a retired federal law enforcement agent with over 22 years of experience working for the Department of Justice, I have seen firsthand the importance of safety and security in our communities. Now, as a candidate for the Grand Prairie ISD School Board Place 2, I am committed to bringing that same level of safety and security to our schools. The safety of our children should always be our top priority, and I have a comprehensive plan to protect them.

Throughout my career, I have gained valuable insight into the best practices for ensuring safety in various settings. My experience has shown me that proactive measures are the most effective way to prevent incidents before they occur. With this in mind, I have developed a safety plan for our schools that focuses on prevention, training, and collaboration.

First and foremost, I will prioritize hiring additional school resource officers (SROs) to maintain a visible presence in our schools. SROs are essential for building relationships with students, staff, and parents, and they play a critical role in deterring potential threats. By increasing the number of SROs in our schools, we can create a safer environment for our children to learn and grow.

In addition to hiring more SROs, I believe that ongoing training for all school staff is essential. This includes training in active shooter response, situational awareness, and threat assessment. By providing our staff with the necessary tools and knowledge, we can empower them to take action in the event of an emergency and keep our children safe.

Another key aspect of my safety plan is fostering collaboration between the school district, local law enforcement, and the community. This includes regular meetings and communication between all parties, as well as the establishment of a school safety committee. The committee would be comprised of representatives from the school district, local law enforcement, and community members, ensuring that all stakeholders have a voice in shaping our safety policies and procedures.

Lastly, it is crucial to address the issue of inappropriate adult contact in our schools. I am committed to implementing strict hiring practices, comprehensive background checks, and ongoing training for staff to ensure that our children are protected from any form of abuse or misconduct.

As a proud graduate of Grand Prairie Public Schools and a dedicated member of our community, I understand the importance of providing our children with a safe and nurturing environment. I am committed to making school safety a top priority, and I believe that my experience and determination make me the ideal candidate for the Grand Prairie ISD School Board Place 2.
